Presentation abstract: DBAs have often a hard time is assessing the storage performance of existing and new systems. The presence of many stacks of technology and compartmentalised expertise, do not facilitate the task. This talk will report on our experience with ORION and SQL-based custom tools to evaluate storage performance and stability prior to production rollout.

Speaker biography: Luca Canali is a Senior DBA for CERN in Geneva with 10 years of experience using Oracle databases and products across various industries, including research, telecoms and finance. Since 2005 the speaker has been working at the startup and support operations of the database services for physics at CERN, based on Oracle RAC 10g and ASM on Linux using commodity hardware. Luca's recent presentations include talks at the UKOUG annual conferences in 2008 and 2007 and a talk at the UKOUG RAC SIG meeting in 2006.
